BIG PICTURE ALLIANCE (BPA) is a non-profit organization that uses film and digital media arts to engage, educate and empower Philadelphia youth. We provide transformative learning experiences that promote self-expression, collaboration, and accomplishment.

For over 20 years, Big Picture Alliance has used filmmaking to empower youth to define their own narrative and determine their own destiny. When youth tap into their natural creativity and feel heard, they become inspired to author the script for their own future.

BPA Programs – “From Script to Screen”
Big Picture Alliance partners with schools, social service agencies, and cultural institutions to bring experienced filmmakers into the classroom with a project-based hands-on approach to creative storytelling from script to screen. Students (ages 10-19) learn scriptwriting, audio-video production, editing, through creating original films that convey their ideas and life experiences. Our instructors work closely with students to find their unique creative voice, while developing their communication, collaboration, and technical skills. Students “pitch” their original films to industry professionals through critiques and field trips in order to get feedback and a “green light”. Programs culminate with youth-hosted community screenings and film festivals.

Our programs provide a safe, supportive and creative environment for youth to develop as young artists, community leaders, scholars & professionals. Working with over 90 school & community partners and 6,000 youth, our innovative approach to project-based learning has resulted in improved academic achievement, college scholarships, internships, employment, and numerous award-winning films .

“Big Picture Alliance has made a major difference in the lives of hundreds of underserved and at-risk youth.” – Michael Nutter, former Mayor of Philadelphia
